The citizens of Bitola, despite all the problems they have with the air pollution, still think that a green future awaits the country.
The citizens replied to CIVIL’s question as to what kind of future awaits us, black or green, and how the local self-government and the state care for environmental protection.
“I am an absolute optimist. It is an eternal struggle between man and nature… When man will put his passions under control, everything will be in order”, thinks one citizen from Bitola.
“I want a green future. But we don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m uncertain. Nobody knows what’s going to happen. Ecologists and the media are trying. There is constant talk about this topic, but it depends on the people. The people destroy”, considers another person from Bitola.
“We teach our children, we teach ourselves where to throw waste, to recycle… still, it depends on the culture of everyone and their home upbringing” says another citizen.
“Green values are absorbed with difficulty here. It depends on the awareness of citizens, it’s not at a very high level. The people are to be blamed primarily, and then the politicians”, says a citizen.
