“Green Reader“ is CIVIL’s new publication, the aim of which is to contribute in an easily understandable way to improving the level of knowledge and strengthening public awareness on green issues and green values. The publication is a result of the project under the same title, which is implemented by the organizational unit Green Civil, in cooperation with the Heinrich Boll Foundation.
The main objectives of the project “Green Reader” was development of resources and civic education based on facts about green issues and green values. Both the project and the very publication are a contribution to the development of green policies and practices. The reader is intended for a broad range of readers, and can especially be useful for decision makers and their public relations teams, civil society organizations, institutions and the media.
The “Green Reader” is easily understandable and approachable for beginner, but also more in-depth familiarizing with green issues.
“It can be noticed that some of the problematic decisions at the central and local level are due to lack of real understanding of sustainability and interconnection with other relevant areas of social-political action in society. The need of understanding the interconnection is more than urgent, that is, the indivisibility of areas such as social and environmental justice, antinationalism, rule of law, gender equality and anti-discrimination. They, and not only they, are an integral part of green policies. And those values can be fostered and practiced only in their entirety and indivisibility” – is said in today’s editorial by Xhabir Deralla, President of CIVIL.
The project and the publication are an effort that is based on the experience of Green CIVIL in communication with the citizens, political and representatives of civil society organizations, as well as from the monitoring of the media, election and political processes, from where a conclusion can surely be drawn that there is a lack of basic understanding and knowledge about what green values mean.
The publication is published on 134 pages and contains 33 texts with over a hundred of terms in the area of green issues. The publication is designed in a way that leaves an opportunity for broadening and improving the matter in the future. It is published in Macedonian and Albanian and can be downloaded from greencivil.mk.
